Position Overview:
The Night Hospitalist is accountable for delivering direct patient care by evaluating the patient's medical history while gathering, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive information relevant to the patient's health status. This role involves providing education, consultation, or intervention to patients and their families, along with administering general medical care for hospitalized individuals and performing procedures within the inpatient environment. The Night Hospitalist acts as the primary physician for patients during their hospital stay.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct patient care in a hospital environment as a Night Hospitalist.
- Assess patient medical histories while gathering and prioritizing relevant health data.
- Offer education, consultation, or intervention to patients and their families regarding treatment plans.
- Collaborate with patients to enhance their health and overall well-being.
- Practice with consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy, and legal responsibilities.
- Document patient information electronically in accordance with licensure and scope.
- Engage in a multidisciplinary team approach to case management.
Practice Details:
- Mercy comprises 68 Hospitalists, 5 Nocturnists, and 6 Advanced Practice Providers, part of a larger team of over 250 hospitalists within the Allina system.
- The Mercy ICU is staffed with Intensivists available 24/7.
- This position entails full-time night shifts at Mercy Hospital.
- Shifts are 12 hours long, from 10 PM to 8 AM.
Qualifications:
- MD, DO, or equivalent foreign training is required.
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Internal Medicine is required.
- An active, unrestricted medical license in Minnesota (or the ability to obtain one) is required.
- Must be able to obtain and/or maintain Minnesota DEA certification and National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Must meet criteria for Credentialing and hospital privileges, if applicable.
- ACLS/BLS certification is required within 180 days of hire.

Physical Demands:
