Each year, we conduct more than 600 open-heart surgeries and over 1200 vascular interventions.

In the past decade, our cardiovascular interventions have surged by 30%, encompassing fem-pop bypass, ELG, AAA, CEA, TCAR, and numerous vascular interventions.

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit is a 28-bed facility, delivering high-level critical care to a substantial number of cardiac and vascular patients, including those requiring Impella, IABP, SLED, CCRT, and EKOS catheterization.

We are the leading center for patients needing hypothermia therapy following cardiac arrest.

Our team includes six cardiovascular surgeons, 30 interventional cardiologists, and nine vascular surgeons, all specializing in hemodynamic monitoring and evidence-based care.

We foster a collaborative culture with exceptional teamwork and seek nurses who are passionate about enhancing cardiovascular care.

This role involves working three 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with the flexibility to utilize our self-scheduling tool for shift and weekend coverage. Enjoy an 18% night shift differential and a flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential.

This position is primarily based at Banner Heart Hospital, with the possibility of floating to Banner Baywood Medical Center as needed.

Located adjacent to Banner Baywood Medical Center, Banner Heart Hospital is dedicated to providing the most advanced cardiovascular care in a setting characterized by clinical excellence, compassion, and healing.

Our facility features state-of-the-art technology, with innovative and cutting-edge solutions. With 111 beds, we rank among the largest freestanding heart hospitals nationwide and have been recognized as one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals for cardiovascular care by Thomson-Reuters.

Our facility includes a 28-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit specializing in the recovery of surgical patients, cardiogenic shock, and CRRT.

We also have a 60-bed Cardiac Progressive Care Unit focused on fast-paced procedural recovery and a 23-bed Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit dedicated to surgical recovery.

Our infrastructure includes two endovascular suites, six operating rooms, six cardiac catheterization labs, and three electrophysiology labs.

POSITION SUMMARY

This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting nursing care for patients in alignment with organizational policies and professional nursing standards, utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development.

The individual in this position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by themselves or those under their supervision.

This role requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate care tailored to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.


CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Collaborates with patients and families to review history and physical assessments within the appropriate timeframe. Analyzes available information from other healthcare team members and reviews diagnostics and laboratory data, reporting any abnormal results to the physician(s) and other relevant caregivers. Completes assessments and reassessments as needed and per policy.
  • Develops a care plan, including discharge planning, utilizing assessment data and input from patients, families, and the healthcare team. Initiates a care plan based on patient-specific needs and assessment data, ensuring goals are realistic, measurable, and developed collaboratively with the patient/family. Takes into account the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs of the patient in the care plan. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to review and adjust the care plan as patient needs evolve.
  • Implements the care plan through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities. Provides care in accordance with physician orders and the nursing plan, adhering to policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements. Delegates appropriately and supervises the provision of care by other licensed nurses and personnel. Ensures continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
  • Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care and education, revising the care plan as necessary. Assesses patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other healthcare team members. Evaluates the effectiveness of patient education and response to treatment.
  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring documentation is legible, timely, and compliant with policy. Documentation must reflect objective/subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient responses. Accurately notes physician orders in a timely manner.
  • Provides care based on the best available evidence and may engage in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership and contributes to the education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors. Supports the growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
  • Contributes to societal well-being through activities that enhance patient outcomes via timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Actively participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, which may include involvement in professional organizations.
  • In certain roles, this position may supervise staff and oversee departmental workflow.

9. Engages with various levels of staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts, including employees from other healthcare institutions and community providers, regarding patient care.
