Position Summary
Weld County Public Works is seeking skilled, analytical individuals to join our dedicated team.

As a vital member of our workforce, you will contribute to the construction and upkeep of paved roadways across Weld County. This role may involve assignments across various divisions within Public Works as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are designed to provide a clear understanding of the essential functions of this position. Successful performance of these duties is expected.

Field Operations (80%):

  • Execute a range of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in asphalt paving, patching, chip sealing, milling, and operating various tools and trucks, alongside manual labor as required.
  • Possess foundational knowledge of road construction and maintenance techniques.
  • Work independently and follow detailed instructions to ensure efficient project completion.
  • Conduct work safely and courteously.
  • Communicate effectively via radio.
  • Maintain a helpful demeanor when interacting with the public.
Administrative Duties (10%):

  • Demonstrate basic computer proficiency and the ability to document data as required by the department.
  • Capable of reading, writing, and understanding simple instructions and correspondence.
  • Build and sustain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
Additional Responsibilities (10%):

  • Be prepared to respond to and work extended hours during emergencies.
  • Assist with snow removal and other adverse weather operations.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred AND
  • Proven experience operating at least two of the following types of equipment: *Asphalt Milling Machine *Front End Loader *Tandem Axle Truck *Asphalt Paver *Backhoe (smaller than a John Deere 410) *Compaction Equipment *Skid Steer *Distributor
  • Minimum of two years operating tractor-trailer and/or heavy machinery.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license by the start date and maintain it throughout employment. A valid Colorado Class A CDL with tanker endorsement is required or the ability to obtain it within an agreed timeframe upon hire.
  • Must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to interact with the public, respond to inquiries, and complete reports.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one situations with the public, subordinates, and supervisors.
  • Perform basic arithmetic operations and apply them to practical situations involving money, weight, measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Apply common sense to carry out detailed instructions and make appropriate decisions independently.
  • Must pass a background check prior to employment start date.
  • Must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date.
  • This position will participate in random substance use screening.
Certifications/Licenses Required:


Valid Colorado Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement required or Class B CDL with the ability to obtain Class A within six months of hire.

This position is non-exempt from minimum wage and overtime requirements as per the Fair Labor Standards Act.
