Position Overview
The Registered Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional care to animals within our Veterinary Clinic. Responsibilities include performing blood draws, placing IV catheters, providing nursing care, administering anesthesia, and preparing animals for surgical procedures. This position collaborates closely with veterinarians to ensure that all animals receive the necessary medical attention and follow-up care.
As a certified RVT, you will be expected to demonstrate leadership within your role, guiding colleagues and exemplifying best practices in animal care. Your expertise will serve as a model for others in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with clients and shelter personnel regarding the health and well-being of animals in our care, providing information about veterinary procedures and animal care.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records and treatment reports in accordance with organizational protocols.
- Collaborate with veterinarians and veterinary management to develop and implement vaccination and treatment protocols.
- Assist veterinarians during examinations by providing proper animal restraint, gathering medical histories, and administering treatments as directed.
- Ensure all medications are filled accurately and administered according to veterinary orders.
- Provide triage and medical support for incoming animals requiring immediate attention.
- Conduct in-house laboratory tests and radiographs as necessary.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of the clinic environment by maintaining equipment and sanitizing work areas.
- Monitor and document the dietary needs and health status of hospitalized patients.
- Support the training of externs and volunteers in veterinary practices.
- Participate in euthanasia procedures when required.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move a minimum of forty pounds.
- Capable of standing and moving for extended periods.
- Exposure to animals and allergens in the workplace.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in veterinary technology from an accredited institution and a current Registered Veterinary Technician license.
- Experience in a veterinary hospital or animal shelter environment is preferred.
