Job Summary

As an Emergency Planning Manager with Cook County Government, you will oversee and assist staff in advising local municipalities on Bureau/Department initiatives. You will serve as the chief of planning, ensuring the Department/Bureau can fulfill its federal grant requirements. Your mission will be to develop, test, promulgate, and maintain all plans that prepare for, prevent, respond to, and recover from all forms of natural disasters and homeland security threats within the County or involving County assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead personnel in dynamic emergency conditions
  • Develop and implement long-term contingency planning
  • Execute operational plans under rapidly evolving emergency situations
  • Conduct presentations to senior leadership and coordinate with counterparts from outside agencies
  • Manage professional and/or skilled support staff on a day-to-day basis

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Five (5) years of experience in emergency management, law enforcement, fire services, coordinating assets, or a directly related field
  • Three (3) years of prior supervisory experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience

Physical Requirements

This role involves sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
