The ideal candidate should possess a profound understanding of and respect for each person's distinct journey towards recovery. The Advocate should have a comprehensive knowledge of the substance abuse treatment framework and a strong dedication to the recovery community.

The primary responsibility of the Recovery Advocate is to assist others in their recovery from substance use disorders. This individual will serve as a role model, mentor, supporter, and motivator for individuals in recovery, helping to prevent relapse and promote sustained recovery. The Recovery Advocate must be capable of sharing personal recovery narratives and fostering genuine peer-to-peer connections.

Key Responsibilities/Core Competencies:

  • Create a nurturing environment for clients to recognize and enhance their strengths towards empowerment.
  • Formulate personalized plans based on the aspirations and goals of the client, addressing their unique needs.
  • Efficiently maintain project documentation, reports, and records.
  • Advocate for clients to access essential services, safeguard their rights, and combat stigma.
  • Establish connections with community organizations/agencies and execute Harm Reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborate with staff and community professionals to encourage ongoing training opportunities.
  • Work alongside the client's family members and other service providers in the recovery strategy.
  • Identify obstacles to full engagement in community resources and devise strategies to overcome them.
  • Comply with confidentiality regulations regarding clinical information and uphold professional conduct standards.

Position: Certified Recovery Advocate

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience, either paid or voluntary, working with individuals facing substance use challenges or their families.
  • Personal experience with substance use services.
  • Preferred: Certification as a Certified Recovery Advocate
