The Department of Veterans Affairs is actively seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible physician specializing in Pulmonology, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine to join our esteemed medical facility.
Position Highlights:
Qualifications Required:
Candidates must possess Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Pulmonology, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.
On-Call Responsibilities:
Call Schedule:
Expect to participate in a call rotation of one in every 5-7 weekends for inpatient care, with ICU backup call as necessary.
Standard office hours are from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Average inpatient census includes 25 beds, with an 8-bed ICU.
Outpatient Responsibilities:
Anticipate an average of 35 outpatient consultations monthly.
Compensation and Benefits:
Sign-On Bonus: Available.
Relocation Assistance: Provided.
Annual Salary: Ranges from $200,000 to $240,000, plus an annual performance bonus of up to $15,000, alongside comprehensive benefits.
Licensure:
A full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state is acceptable for practice at this facility.
Continuing Medical Education (CME):
A stipend of $1,000 per year for CME reimbursement, along with one week of paid authorized absence to attend educational events (subject to budget availability).
Malpractice Coverage:
Liability protection with tail coverage is provided by the federal government, and there is no employment contract for physicians.
Benefits Overview:
The VA offers a robust benefits package that includes:
- 26 days of paid annual leave (vacation/personal) that can be carried over up to 86 days into the next year.
- 13 days of paid sick leave annually, with no limit on accumulation; unused sick leave can extend creditable service time at retirement.
- 10 federal holidays with pay.
- 5 days of paid authorized absence and $1,000 reimbursement for approved CME courses.
Insurance Options:
VA employees have access to a wide array of health insurance plans, with premiums partially covered by the VA.
Dental and Vision Coverage:
Exceptional dental and vision plans are available, with costs shared by the VA.
Flexible Spending Accounts are also offered for tax-free medical, dental, and vision expenses.
Retirement Benefits:
Employees are covered under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), which includes:
- Social Security benefits.
- FERS-FRAE basic benefits (pension).
- Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), a 401K-type plan.
VA employees automatically contribute 4.4% of their salary, with the VA contributing an additional 8.3% each pay period, totaling a 12.7% annual contribution.
Employees under 50 can contribute up to $17,500 annually, while those over 50 may make catch-up contributions up to $23,000.
In addition to FERS, VA provides health care insurance coverage for retired personnel and disability retirement options.
