Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Assistant Professor of English to join our faculty at San Diego Mesa College. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching English composition courses, serving on departmental committees, and participating in the work of the department and college.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach English composition courses, including multiple levels of composition and literature courses
  • Serve on departmental committees, such as curriculum development and assessment
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives, such as professional development and diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including student evaluations and course syllabi
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition, or a related field
  • Experience teaching and evaluating students in multiple levels of composition courses
  • Training and currency in composition theory and pedagogical approaches
  • Ability and willingness to use research for innovation in the classroom
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Commitment to the community college mission
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including those from underrepresented backgrounds
  • Ability to effectively integrate current technology in teaching multiple classroom modalities
  • Organization and leadership skills, and an ability to work with a diverse faculty and staff
