Position Overview

Role Summary:
Under general supervision, the specialist conducts diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations. This role involves obtaining essential images, preparing studies for cardiologist interpretation, and reviewing data while collaborating with medical personnel. The specialist is responsible for identifying both normal and abnormal human anatomy, as well as pathological heart conditions. Additionally, the role includes assisting in interventional procedures such as Transesophageal Echocardiograms and Cardioversions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to Kaiser Permanente's policies and applicable laws.
  • Conduct all echocardiogram procedures, utilizing various ultrasound modalities including 2D, M-Mod, Strain, and Doppler Testing.
  • Perform specialized procedures such as Contrast Transthoracic Echocardiograms and Exercise Stress Echocardiograms.
  • Assist in emergency bedside echo-guided procedures and interventional echocardiography.
  • Participate in clinical trials and execute specific research protocols.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding procedures and clarify physician orders.
  • Ensure the functionality of ultrasound equipment and perform minor adjustments as needed.
  • Respond promptly to urgent requests from physicians for echocardiogram examinations.
  • Provide training and support to other staff members as necessary.
Qualifications:Experience:
  • At least one (1) year of full-time equivalent experience in cardiac ultrasound within the last three years.
Education:
  • Completion of an accredited two-year ARDMS/ARDCS Cardiovascular sonographer program.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Adult Echocardiography Certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
Additional Skills:
  • Proficient knowledge of ultrasound equipment and procedures.
  • Ability to maneuver ultrasound equipment weighing over 500 lbs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Notes:
This position may require travel to various locations and participation in weekend and on-call rotations.
