Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) Qualifications:
- 2,500 total flight hours with a minimum of 2,000 hours in category.
- 1,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) in category.
- 500 hours of turbine rotorcraft experience.
- 500 hours of cross-country flight time, including at least 50 hours at night.
- 100 hours of unaided night flight as PIC (50 hours of unaided can be substituted with 100 hours of NVG time, but cannot be reduced below 50 hours of unaided time).
- 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time, with at least 50 hours in-flight in an aircraft, including 20 hours in actual instrument conditions in category.
Responsible for ensuring that aircraft and weather conditions are suitable for transporting medical personnel and patients to healthcare facilities within the designated operational area.
Accountable for adherence to Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual guidelines (GOM), and a thorough understanding of Air Methods policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential functions and responsibilities include:
- Operate Air Methods aircraft safely and legally.
- Conduct pre-flight inspections to verify the aircraft's airworthiness, documented in the Daily Flight Log. Pilots will perform a comprehensive walk-around of the aircraft before entering the cockpit and after each flight.
- Hold final authority regarding aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
- Maintain familiarity with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft utilized in the operational area, ensuring the medical flight team is comfortable with the medical interior and systems.
- Complete required documentation accurately.
- Conduct detailed flight planning with minimal notice to high standards.
- Engage regularly in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Additional Job Requirements:
- Regular scheduled attendance is essential.
- Travel requirement: 10%.
Qualifications:
To successfully perform this role, an individual must be able to execute each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Education & Experience:
- Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with two to five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
Operational and Safety Requirements:
- As a member of the Flight Crew, individuals in this position must maintain a weight not exceeding 250 pounds and be under seventy (70) years of age.
Skills:
- Pilots must have flown in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the previous 24 months.
- Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public, striving to foster a friendly and professional working environment.
Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Qualifications:
- 2,000 total flight hours with a minimum of 1,500 hours in category.
- 1,000 hours as PIC in category.
- 500 hours of turbine rotorcraft experience.
- 200 hours of cross-country flight time, including at least 50 hours at night.
- 100 hours of unaided night flight as PIC (50 hours of unaided can be substituted with 100 hours of NVG time, but cannot be reduced below 50 hours of unaided time).
- 50 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category (simulator time does not count). For a rotorcraft candidate who is fixed-wing rated, 100 hours or greater of fixed-wing actual or hood instrument time can reduce the rotorcraft required instrument time to 25 hours.
Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) Qualifications:
- 2,500 total flight hours with a minimum of 2,000 hours in category.
- 1,000 hours as PIC in category.
- 500 hours of cross-country flight time, including 100 hours of night flight time.
- 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument time, with at least 50 hours in-flight in an aircraft, including 20 hours in actual instrument conditions in category.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Commercial & Instrument Rating (for category and class of aircraft).
- ATP rating in category meets this requirement.
- First OR Second Class FAA Medical certificate required.
