We are seeking a highly skilled Accountant 3 to join our team at the Tennessee Department of State, Division of Fiscal and Administrative Services. As a key member of our accounting team, you will be responsible for performing all aspects of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and grants administration functions.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare, review, and execute financial transactions related to travel claims, invoices, journal vouchers, grants, warrant cancellations, payroll, state payment card, refunds, and deposits.
- Perform fiscal functions of grant administration, including transacting, reviewing, monitoring, and reporting on state and federal levels.
- Research, analyze, prepare, and process complex accounting journal entries to ensure proper recording of all financial transactions.
- Collaborate with other divisions to ensure accurate recording of cash, check, and credit card transactions in external software systems and reconcile with our accounting system of record (Edison).
- Interpret federal and state laws, rules, and regulations for internal and external customers to facilitate compliance and explain financial transactions and reports to non-accounting personnel.
- Effectively communicate accounting and financial concepts to internal and external customers.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other relevant degree including thirty-six quarter hours in accounting and experience equivalent to three years of full-time professional accounting or auditing work.
- Designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) will be given preference.
Competitive salary commensurate with experience and State of Tennessee benefits package. The official workstation is the Tennessee Tower in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Consideration may be given to allow for hybrid work after a period of time, at the discretion of the Director. Official work hours are 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Central Time, with potential adjustments at the discretion of the Director.
