Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Food Service Worker to join our team at Claremont McKenna College. As a key member of our dining hall staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to our students, faculty, and staff while maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greets guests with a smile and a warm welcome, swipes student ID cards, and takes cash from paying guests.
  • Understands and follows proper cash procedures, including counting cash bank, verifying opening balance, and completing cash reconciliation work sheets.
  • Maintains a clean and organized environment at the cashier station, including cleaning doors, wiping down tables and chairs, and ensuring signage and menus are in their proper place.
  • Ensures To Go items are stocked before service and removed after, and wipes down tables and chairs before and after meal service.
  • Follows proper food preparation and sanitation directives as established by the Health Department, and complies with internal policies and procedures related to food, sanitation, and safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning, and cross-training as time permits.
Requirements
  • Cash handling skills and ability to operate a cash register.
  • Basic arithmetic functions for cash handling responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of POS register system and computer experience.
  • Knowledge of food sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced commercial kitchen preferred.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, take and follow directions, and respond appropriately to constructive criticism.
  • Display a positive attitude, balance multiple tasks and priorities, and perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position.
Working Conditions

This is a part-time position with a variable schedule based on business needs. Overtime, holiday, weekend, and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stop, twist, stretch, squat, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds from floor to waist level without assistance.

Individual must be able to work on feet for prolonged periods of time.

Must be able to establish cooperative working relationships and work well with minimal supervision.

Use organizational and time management skills, take initiative in performance of work tasks, and be willing to assist others as needed.

Complete work with a sense of urgency, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Deploy professional skills in collaboration with colleagues to best promote the College's strategic interests and provide the best quality on-campus food services.

Must be able to satisfactorily understand and follow job-related instructions in English.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None

GROOMING AND APPEARANCE: The Claremont Colleges seek to maintain a neat and professional image at all times. A uniform is required and will be provided.

BACKGROUND CHECK: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a full consumer background check. This position will also require the successful completion of a post-offer physical agility test.
