Job Summary:
The Wastewater Operations Technician is responsible for the daily management and upkeep of a Grade III Wastewater Treatment Facility, Spray Irrigation System, and Class II Wastewater Collection System.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine water testing, document results, and maintain accurate plant logbooks.
- Monitor operational equipment including charts, gauges, and SCADA systems, ensuring calibration of instruments and analyzers as per regulatory and manufacturer guidelines.
- Analyze data related to facility operations and promptly report any irregularities to the Chief Plant Operator.
- Inspect pump stations and the collection system regularly.
- Conduct both corrective and preventive maintenance on pumps and related equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the facility, including grounds upkeep.
- Adhere to health and safety protocols.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning safely and effectively; perform necessary maintenance and repairs.
- Prepare reports and documentation relevant to work activities, ensuring compliance with standard utility practices.
- Maintain inventory records for chemicals, materials, and supplies.
- Utilize computer systems and software as required.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
This position involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level is typically moderate, with occasional exposure to higher noise levels within OSHA standards.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Approximately three years of relevant industry experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and maintenance experience with pumps.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions in English.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Certifications:
Ability to obtain the following certifications:
- NC Grade 2 Biological Wastewater Operator Certification or higher.
- Surface Irrigation Water Pollution Control Certification.
- NC Grade 1 Collection System Certification or higher.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires regular communication and frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Vision capabilities must include the ability to distinguish colors and have both close and distance vision.
