Chief Nursing Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced nursing leader to join our team at Midwest Surgical Hospital as Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping the future of our hospital's nursing practice and clinical operations.

About the Role

The CNO will be responsible for overseeing the nursing function and clinical operations, ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality care. This includes developing and implementing policies, procedures, and standards of care that align with our hospital's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of Midwest Surgical Hospital.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards of care that align with our hospital's mission and values.
  • Oversee the nursing function and clinical operations, ensuring that our patients receive the highest quality care.
  • Participate in organizational strategic planning and create operational objectives and goals to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Ensure that cordial relationships are maintained with patients and their families.
  • Build relationships and credibility with physicians as a champion for patient care, quality, and the professional practice of nursing.
  • Ensure that written organizational clinical policies and procedures are reviewed and updated in accordance with evidence-based practice.
  • Determine organizational patient care delivery model and the development of nurse-to-patient ratios, staffing metrics, and supervisory roles.
  • Identify areas of risk/liability; facilitate staff education on risk management and compliance issues.
  • Support the organizational patient safety program and a non-punitive reporting environment.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement assessments to evaluate systems and effectiveness of patient care delivery.
  • Use data management systems for decision making and participate in workforce planning and employment decisions.
  • In conjunction with HR, evaluate and create action plans based on results of employee engagement surveys.
  • Recommend, support, develop, and participate in education services and training, including orientation of new employees.
  • Participate in the development of a leadership succession plan.
  • Serve as a change leader and advocate for organizational change management.
  • Plan and coordinate budgeting requirements for personnel, supplies, and equipment with the executive team.
  • Understand regulations and payment issues that affect the organization's finances.
  • Participate in clinical and supply contract negotiations and monitor contract compliance.
  • Represent nursing at the governing board and medical advisory meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • 10+ years' nursing experience, required.
  • 5+ years' progressive acute care nursing leadership experience, required.
  • Perioperative experience, required.
  • Current RN license in the State of Nebraska, required.
  • ACLS and BLS certification, required.
  • Current member of the American Nurses Association and/or the American Organization for Nursing Leadership.
