The state-supported living centers cater to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those who are medically fragile or exhibit behavioral challenges.

These centers provide essential direct services and support across 13 locations statewide.

The Support Services Professional (SSP) I is part of a dedicated team that assists individuals with intellectual disabilities in reaching their personal goals.

Responsibilities may include routine and emergency care, treatment, and training in various environments.

Duties can vary and may encompass grooming, bathing, feeding, observing and reporting on individuals' conditions and behaviors, engaging in meaningful interactions, and participating in individualized training and active treatment programs for both genders.

The SSP I is responsible for documenting information about individuals' daily activities, responses to events, training progress, and any unusual occurrences.

Completion of tasks involves simple and routine duties, with decision-making guided by training and support from professional staff.

Work occurs in a collaborative environment with supervision and training provided.
This position may require the operation of a state-owned vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

Regular attendance is essential, and the ability to work specific or rotating shifts, extended hours, and/or overtime as per agency policy is required, along with other assigned duties.

Assists individuals with training to develop daily living and vocational skills.

Implements behavior intervention strategies as recommended to ensure individuals are safeguarded from harm or injury due to abuse, neglect, or other immediate dangers, and provides emergency care as necessary.

Participates in delivering therapeutic and individualized training according to each individual's active treatment plan, documenting progress accordingly.

Aids individuals (both male and female) in executing essential self-care tasks (e.g., bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, toileting, feeding, and grooming).

Ensures a safe environment by identifying and rectifying hazards and reporting them to supervisors.

Monitors individuals for signs of illness, injury, medication reactions, or other conditions that may require medical attention.

Assists in transporting individuals to scheduled activities and during emergencies, as needed.
May be involved in preventing or managing aggressive behavior and administering CPR in emergency situations.

Additional responsibilities may include actively participating in disaster response and recovery efforts or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may necessitate alternate shift assignments or locations.



Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn patient care techniques and treatment protocols.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English to effectively communicate and follow instructions.
  • Capability to learn behavior modification techniques necessary for training individuals with specific behavioral needs.
  • Ability to provide individual care, administer first aid or CPR, and effectively communicate.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others and work as part of a team while accepting supervision.
