The Allegheny Intermediate Unit is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Childhood Educator to join our team as a Head Start Teacher. This is a full-time, 200-day calendar position, responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising all classroom activities for preschool-aged children.
Key Responsibilities- Classroom Management: Implement educational programming within the program philosophy and under all Office of Head Start Performance Standards for early childhood accreditation and licensing requirements to support the social/emotional (mental health) and developmental needs of each child.
- Child Development: Demonstrate and teach child development to parents, volunteers, and staff, and intentionally apply principles to programming.
- Classroom Environment: Plan and maintain an integrated classroom environment and materials in response to the enrolled children and ensure organization, cleanliness, and safety in all classrooms.
- Assessment and Planning: Analyze observations and assessments to plan for each child.
- Individual Learning Plans: Write individual learning plan (ILP) for each child based on observational notes, the developmental continuum, and parent input (include five objectives: social-emotional, first language and literacy, second language and literacy, cognitive, and physical development).
- Communication: Use developmentally appropriate means of communicating with the children.
- Environment Maintenance: Assist with the maintenance of a clean, healthy, and safe environment.
- Education: B.A. or B.S. in Early Childhood Education/equivalent degree with experience teaching preschool-aged children preferred; OR B.A./B.S. in a related field including 30 ECE credits with experience teaching preschool-aged children required; OR B.A./B.S. in Elementary Education and 18 ECE credits with experience teaching preschool-aged children required; OR B.A. /B.S. with ECE Certification with experience teaching preschool-aged children required.
- Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge and skills in the field of early childhood development.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of Office of Head Start Performance Standards of Early Childhood.
- Community Resources: Knowledge of various service resources in the community.
- Child Safety: Knowledge of the state and federal regulations pertaining to child abuse and neglect and childcare licensing requirements.
- Cultural Competence: Knowledge of local resources, languages, and customs.
- Physical Demands: Sitting for an extended period of time.
- Lifting and Carrying: Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling 50 pounds.
- Physical Abilities: Ability to kneel, crouch, bend, and reach to retrieve and handle teaching materials and supplies.
- Repetitive Movements: Moving fingers and hands in a repetitive manner.
- Communication: Ability to speak clearly and distinctly when communicating with limited English-speaking customers.
- Hearing and Vision: Hearing clearly and adequate vision to perform duties.
