Job Overview

Core Responsibilities

Positions within this classification are tasked with the operation of heavy machinery and performing associated duties in the upkeep and repair of roadways.

Key Duties Include:

  • Operating various heavy equipment such as trucks, tractors, road graders, dozers, front-end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, and snow removal apparatus.
  • Conducting minor repairs and maintenance on machinery and facilities.
  • Addressing issues in roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
  • Repairing or replacing traffic signs, posts, guardrails, and fencing.
  • Providing traffic control assistance using appropriate signage or flagging techniques.
  • Applying herbicides to manage weeds and unwanted vegetation along highways.
  • Removing debris, including tires, animal remains, and other obstructions.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess at least one year of experience in operating heavy machinery.

Special Requirements

  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of employment.
  • Some positions may necessitate a commercial driver's license, class A or B, with relevant endorsements.
  • Successful candidates must be willing to undertake job-related travel and work irregular hours during emergencies.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 80 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Employees must be able to perform various physical activities, including standing, walking, reaching, and manipulating equipment.
