The primary objective of the Certified Nursing Assistant role is to deliver essential daily nursing care and services to assigned residents, adhering to their individualized care plans.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and responsibilities are integral to the role within a nursing home environment, which may encompass, but are not limited to, the tasks listed below:

  • Committed to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Delivers personal care to residents, ensuring their safety and comfort in line with facility policies and state/federal regulations.
  • Aims to respect resident preferences and choices in all aspects of care.
  • Identifies and rectifies safety hazards in patient care areas, acknowledging personal accountability for patient safety.
  • Adheres to established policies, practices, and standards for nursing services.
  • Encourages and supports the highest possible level of independence for residents.
  • Reports residents' status to the charge nurse at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Provides insights on residents' conditions and documents observations as necessary.
  • Ensures a safe and clean environment.
  • Follows procedures for safe lifting and transferring of residents according to established guidelines.
  • Ensures that equipment is clean and functional, reporting any issues to the supervisor.
  • Performs incidental housekeeping or maintenance tasks as needed to maintain a clean, hazard-free environment for residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Utilizes personal protective equipment as required during personal care tasks.
  • Conducts regular rounds on the assigned unit to ensure the environment is neat, odor-free, and orderly, making corrections as necessary. This includes resident rooms, hallways, public restrooms, shower rooms, dining areas, and other common spaces.
  • Completes daily documentation as required, including restorative programming and computerized records.
  • Implements restorative programs as directed.
  • Is knowledgeable about the abuse prevention policy and understands the responsibility to enforce it.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The characteristics of the work environment are representative of those encountered while performing essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
  • While executing the responsibilities of this position, the employee may be exposed to blood or other bodily fluids, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
  • Effective communication in English is required, both verbally and in writing, with various levels of staff, patient families, and external customers.
  • The physical demands outlined are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • State certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • CPR certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
  • No disqualifying criminal offenses as defined by regulatory guidelines.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

  • Participates in in-service and educational programs.
  • Completes required Relias in-services on time.
  • Attains 12 hours of in-service training annually to maintain certification.
  • Keeps CPR certification current.
