Position Overview

Seattle Bank is currently in search of a seasoned professional to take on the role of Portfolio Manager. This position entails the assessment and underwriting of moderate to complex loan applications, alongside effective portfolio management. The Portfolio Manager employs robust credit skills and experience to structure intricate loans, balancing sales objectives with strategic risk management to ensure risks are adequately mitigated. This role is also responsible for the ongoing oversight of the loan portfolio, ensuring that credit files are comprehensive and well-maintained, while promptly notifying relevant parties of any potential adverse information and trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and evaluate credit information on existing and prospective borrowers, including the preparation of financial statement analyses for borrowers and guarantors.
  • Underwrite commercial and consumer credit requests, recommending loan structures based on the financial condition of clients and identifying key credit risks and mitigating factors.
  • Monitor changes and update credit approvals with additions, modifications, and clarifications as the package is reviewed by the Credit Administrator and Loan Committee.
  • Ensure adherence to Seattle Bank's credit policies and procedures, identifying any policy exceptions.
  • Collaboratively prepare credit approval presentations with Relationship Managers.
  • Research economic conditions, business cycles, and operational assessments to understand non-financial risks associated with borrowers.
  • Work closely with the Credit Administrator and Relationship Managers to manage a portfolio monitoring system for all loan relationships.
  • Review and analyze third-party reports, including appraisals and credit bureau reports.
  • Monitor loan/financial covenants for compliance, notifying relevant parties of any non-compliance.
  • Engage with borrowers to obtain updated financial information, ensuring the quality of documentation within files.
  • Assist in preparing reports on problem loans and contribute to loan workouts as necessary.
  • Support special projects as assigned, including management report preparation.
  • Mentor junior Credit Analysts by providing opportunities for guidance and training.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and five (5) or more years of credit analysis or related experience.
  • Preferred completion of a formal bank credit training program or certification in RMA or Omega.
  • Experience underwriting new commercial real estate and/or lines of credit loans with minimal oversight.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of credit principles and commercial lending best practices.
  • Experience and training in financial statement and tax return analysis, typically resulting from a combination of education and courses in accounting and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency with financial spreading software (e.g., Moody's Risk Analyst).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, with expertise in Microsoft Excel being a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with loan officers, clients, and bank management.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while performing duties.
