Trial Attorney

We are seeking an experienced Trial Attorney to join our team at Selective Insurance. As a key member of our Staff Counsel office, you will be responsible for handling insurance defense cases and providing expert legal counsel to our clients.

• Case Management: Prepare and file pleadings, motions, and briefs, and conduct discovery practice, including depositions and expert selection.
• Client Communication: Communicate with clients and claims personnel regarding the status of pending matters, and provide regular updates on case progress.
• Litigation Strategy: Develop and implement litigation strategies for assigned cases, and provide analysis and recommendations to claims personnel.
• Research and Writing: Conduct research and write legal opinions, recommendations, and digests of recent developments in decisional and statutory law.
• Court Appearances: Represent Selective Insurance in court, including trials, arbitrations, and mediations.
• Travel: Travel to depositions, court appearances, claims, and client meetings, as necessary.

• Education: Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school.
• Experience: Minimum 7+ years of legal experience in the jurisdiction, with trial experience preferred.
• Bar Admission: Member in good standing of the Bar of the jurisdiction.
• Skills: Excellent customer service, writing, and oral communication skills, with ability to demonstrate independent judgment, research, litigation, and analytical skills.
• Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Edge or Chrome, with experience in legal case management software required.
