The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
This role entails delivering nursing services to residents within assigned units, ensuring their medical needs are met. In the absence of the Nurse Supervisor, the position is responsible for managing acute health issues. The nurse will oversee medication administration and procedures in line with established pharmacy and nursing protocols. Active participation in the rehabilitation programs of residents is essential. The nurse will also act as the health care coordinator for designated units, adhering to the Health Care Guidelines.

  • Collaborates in the planning and execution of nursing care, focusing on assessing needs and initiating appropriate interventions in compliance with all regulatory standards.
  • Mentors and develops nursing personnel to guarantee high-quality care and treatment for all residents.
  • Evaluates the needs of individuals, identifies signs of physical or emotional distress, formulates care plans, and assesses their effectiveness. Works closely with a multidisciplinary team to integrate nursing care into the Individual Support Plan (ISP).
  • Executes clinical procedures competently while maintaining a safe and hygienic environment. Provides training and serves as a resource for nursing staff.
  • Engages in additional responsibilities as assigned by the Nurse Supervisor.

The salary range for this position is $77,500 to $85,543, determined by verified nursing experience. Eligible candidates may receive a shift differential of up to $6.25/hour for applicable shifts. Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in South Carolina.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with nursing techniques and practices. Understanding of medical terminology. Capability to adhere to established protocols and procedures. Proficient in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care strategies. Ability to foster trust and cooperation with individuals. Competence in culturally sensitive interactions. Skills in preparing educational materials for nursing programs. Knowledge of administrative procedures. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies. Team-oriented mindset. Experience in supervising and guiding paraprofessional staff. General understanding of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Capability to work in a group home or ICF setting. Physical ability to assist individuals who may exhibit aggressive behavior or have complex medical needs.
