Position Summary:
The Facilities Manager is tasked with the oversight of maintenance and repair operations across all campus facilities, which include academic buildings, residence halls, and athletic venues. This role requires strong leadership to guide a sizable team of maintenance professionals and to collaborate with various departments, ensuring that all maintenance tasks are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. The Facilities Manager is essential in maintaining campus facilities that are safe, comfortable, and functional for the entire campus community. The ideal candidate will possess robust leadership experience in facilities management and project management, along with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, supervisors, and other personnel, providing direction to ensure efficient and high-quality work.
- Plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance activities based on campus community needs, ensuring timely completion of all tasks.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies to keep campus facilities in optimal condition and reduce emergency repair needs.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance and repair efforts, minimizing disruptions to campus operations.
- Manage budgets for maintenance and repair projects, ensuring adherence to financial constraints.
- Oversee the procurement of materials and supplies necessary for maintenance and repair tasks, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as campus policies and procedures in all maintenance activities.
- Maintain adherence to ABM's quality control and assurance policies, providing timely reports to relevant parties.
- Establish and enforce policies and procedures related to maintenance operations, ensuring staff awareness and compliance.
- Provide regular updates on maintenance operations to the Director of Facilities Management, including progress and financial reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of experience in facilities management within a higher education setting, including experience in leading large maintenance teams.
- Strong project management capabilities, with a history of planning and executing extensive maintenance and repair projects.
- Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with a proven ability to motivate and manage staff to achieve objectives.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including staff, faculty, students, and external vendors.
- Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to maintenance and repair work.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a knack for identifying issues and formulating effective solutions.
- Familiarity with budgeting and financial management principles.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software tools.
