Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified, part-time Adjunct Professor of Culinary Arts to teach courses in the Culinary Arts Department at Alamance Community College. The successful candidate will be focused on student success and support the college's mission by facilitating student learning in and outside of the classroom through high-quality instruction and academic support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Instruction
    • Provide relevant learning opportunities that promote student engagement and retention.
    • Stay current in the field of culinary arts and in teaching methodology.
    • Create meaningful assessments and evaluate student work according to departmental standards.
    • Maintain accurate student records, including course attendance to enhance retention and success.
    • Be available for students during office or lab hours for assistance.
    • Provide regular grade updates through the college's online gradebook.
  • Student Support
    • Provide students with current information regarding career opportunities in the culinary arts.
    • Be informed about college services and support for students.
  • Culinary Operations
    • Maintain sanitation and facility standards within a commercial kitchen environment consistent with Alamance County Environmental Health Food and Facility regulations.
    • Maintain licensure/certifications and stay well-informed of advancements and changes within the field of culinary arts through professional development activities.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    • An Associate Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related discipline or demonstrated competencies in teaching specific culinary courses.
    • ServeSafe Manager Certification.
    • Able to manually demonstrate culinary practical skills and teach all culinary topics.
    • Dresses professionally and arrives on time for classes.
    • Demonstrated ability to build relationships within an education setting, plan, organize, and implement programs and services, and provide tracking and assessment to ensure quality.
    • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Post-secondary teaching experience, preferably in a community college environment.
    • Minimum of two years of culinary industry experience.
    • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in a community college setting.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with the Department Head, co-workers, and students.
    • Understanding and commitment to the mission and principles of community colleges.
