Job Overview

The Underground Construction Foreman is responsible for overseeing all assigned projects, ensuring they are completed within the agreed timeline and in compliance with company policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate necessary machinery for underground construction tasks.
  • Provide direct supervision and on-site support to underground construction teams.
  • Monitor project progress and address any issues to meet cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
  • Deliver daily updates on project status to the executive team.
  • Collaborate with the Director to prepare initial cost estimates and route proposals, including detailed project descriptions and mapping.
  • Coordinate work schedules to prioritize projects effectively.
  • Identify proposed underground routes and ensure proper utility locates are obtained.
  • Determine right-of-way and permitting needs for proposed routes.
  • Interpret construction documents, including prints, plans, and fiber splicing diagrams.
  • Supervise both in-house and contractor personnel.
  • Conduct pre-construction meetings to align project expectations.
  • Engage with clients to coordinate schedules, plans, and potential risks.
  • Accurately forecast resource needs based on project deadlines.
  • Manage quality control to ensure safe execution of projects according to specifications.
  • Oversee material procurement, including forecasting and ordering.
  • Secure necessary permits and licenses for project execution.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with local, state, and federal officials as required.
  • Adhere to industry-standard construction practices.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of estimates, focusing on cost, materials, manpower, and schedules.
  • Maintain all underground equipment to prevent mechanical failures.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the telecommunications sector.
  • Expertise in operating underground machinery, including directional drills, trenchers, backhoes, and locator beacons.
  • Familiarity with construction safety standards, OSHA regulations, and NEC/NESC codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and permits.
  • Proficient in using documents, spreadsheets, and related software applications.
  • Knowledge of web applications and/or GIS mapping software is advantageous.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to travel with overnight stays as necessary.
  • Occasionally lift and carry loads of 50 lbs or more.
