Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will be responsible for administering respiratory care under the direction of a physician, identifying and pursuing expected patient outcomes in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities
  • Administer respiratory patient care under the direction of a physician, ensuring the highest level of patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Educate patients, particularly those with complex care issues, within the hospital setting and for post-discharge care, promoting patient empowerment and self-management.
  • Implement the use of a range of respiratory equipment for breathing assistance and secretion management, testing equipment and patient response, and leading patients through breathing exercises.
  • Evaluate blood-gas levels through arterial punctures for intubated patients, as ordered by a physician, and adjust care as needed, including parameters of respiratory equipment.
  • Intubate critical care patients as directed by a physician, selecting specialized ventilator modes to manage specific disease processes, and monitor intubated patients on an ongoing, round-the-clock basis.
Requirements
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) status administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current North Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB).
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of work experience in an adult critical care setting.
  • Experience working in a pediatric/neonatal care setting.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Work Environment

This is a full-time position with a standard 36-hour workweek. The work schedule is night shift, with opportunities for professional growth and development within UNC Health Care.
