Job Title: Construction Inspector

Ghirardelli Associates is seeking a skilled Construction Inspector to join our team. As a Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that construction projects are completed in accordance with plans and specifications.

Job Summary:

The Construction Inspector will be responsible for inspecting construction methods and workmanship to ensure that contractors build roadways, bridges, and other public works projects in accordance with plans and specifications. This position will be based out of our Irvine office and will involve working with an experienced team of professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure compliance with plans and specifications
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and prepare written daily reports documenting construction activities
  • Consult with Resident Engineers, Bridge Engineers, Project Engineers, and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems
  • Prepare quantity calculation sheets to support monthly progress payments to construction contractors
  • Coordinate field testing of construction materials and construction surveys
  • Ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications
  • Monitor project phasing and traffic control plans for compliance with approved safety standards
  • Observe and inspect ongoing construction work
  • Perform construction record-keeping activities; recommend payments to contractors; prepare reports
  • Train and mentor less experienced inspectors on work methods
  • Document work progress and issues arising throughout the scope of the project
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in roadway construction inspection of roadways mandatory
  • Strong communication, verbal, and written skills required
  • Basic computer skills required, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Caltrans or other Public Agency Experience highly desired
  • Knowledge of Caltrans and Local Agency Standard Plans and Specifications and Greenbook

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit for up to 6 to 8 hours per day while working at a computer, during meetings, or while driving. Walking up to 2 hours per day while performing field visits. Ability to see well enough to function in a typical office environment and read standard text on paper and electronic screen of a computer or handheld device. The associate frequently is required to use hands. Repetitive reaching, repetitive hand use. Physical agility to perform tasks requiring a full range of body movements including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stretching, twisting, reaching, balancing, squatting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, or assuming crouched positions; repetitive arm, hand, finger, wrist, leg, or foot motion. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Frequently use safety equipment such as a hard hat and safety vest; work in areas not well ventilated such as utility vaults; work outdoors or work on uneven ground or floor spaces; work at elevations above ground level and on marine vessels/structures. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and can work any day of the week both night and day. Available for after-hour emergency response.
