Job Summary

As a Pathologist at Memorial Hospital, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Your expertise will be essential in identifying diseases and developing treatment plans for patients.

Responsibilities
  • Perform studies of all surgical specimens to identify diseases and develop treatment plans.
  • Conduct autopsies to determine the cause of death and identify any underlying conditions.
  • Review abnormal and selected cytological preparations to identify diseases and develop treatment plans.
  • Review all bone marrow preparations to identify diseases and develop treatment plans.
  • Render timely reports on all reviews and studies to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Present cases at conferences and meetings to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Identify diseased body parts or tissues for physicians during surgical procedures to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Present conferences for the Department of Pathology or other hospital departments to share knowledge and best practices.
  • Communicate with medical staff members to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Establish standard operating procedures to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Provide medical direction to support staff to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Review selected clinical laboratory test results and make recommendations to technologists and attending physicians to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Receive and act on problems and questions in Clinical Pathology to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Consult with laboratory personnel concerning lab problems to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Participate in selection of sectional supervisors and laboratory equipment to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities of the Department of Pathology to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Maintain department, institution, and licensure required education to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Document appropriately to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Responsible for integrating continuous quality improvement into department and institution operations to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Support and assist employee participation in the continuous quality improvement processes to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Reinforce employee understanding of work integration with other departments throughout the institution to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • May be required to perform routine Pathologist duties for Third Parties at remote locations as provided for by contracts between CAMC and respective locations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact)

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages.

Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patient.

Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.

  • Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization.
  • Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Education
  • Medical Degree (Required)

MD or DO Board Certified/Board Eligible; American Board of Internal Medicine. Doctorate Degree Anatomical and/or Clinical Pathology

Credentials: WV state Medical License

Work Schedule: Varies
