About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Ombudsman Educational Services. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality education and support to students with diverse needs.

Salary: $65,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and implementing individualized instructional programs for students with IEPs. This will involve delivering instruction, implementing curriculum materials and educational software, and developing daily lesson plans and classroom schedules that meet state and school requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating a Collaborative Learning Environment: Establishing a positive and respectful classroom environment that promotes social development and group responsibility.
  • Implementing Behavioral Programs: Implementing established PBIS programs, reinforcement systems, behavioral expectations, and consequence guidelines.
  • Recording Progress and Maintaining Records: Recording student progress and maintaining accurate records, including IEPs, behavior plans, and functional behavior analyses.
  • Providing Direct Instruction and Support: Providing direct instruction in subjects as required and working collaboratively with colleagues to teach curricular subjects.
  • Modifying Curriculum and Differentiated Instruction: Modifying curriculum and assisting with differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Reporting Incidents and Maintaining Safety: Reporting incidents, such as fights or suspected child abuse, to ensure the safety of students and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Maintaining the Physical Center: Ensuring the center and surrounding areas are neat, clean, and well-maintained.
  • Staying Current with Research-Based Practices: Keeping up-to-date with research-based practices and developments in subject areas, resources, and professional development.
  • Responding to Feedback: Responding constructively to formal and informal feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a related field.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Meet all state teaching license and/or certification requirements, including special education credential.
  • Experience: Prior experience in curriculum development, differentiation, and instruction in a classroom setting, preferably in alternative educational services for at-risk students.
  • Skills: Proficiency in providing motivation, critical conversations, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of relevant technology, including instructional technology and Microsoft Office Suite.
