Position Overview

The Field Technician III role is part of a structured job family that includes Field Technician IV, Field Technician III, and Field Technician II positions.

This role encompasses a range of responsibilities that may include both regulated and non-regulated tasks:

  • Regulated Duties: Conduct maintenance, repairs, construction, and emergency responses on gas transmission and distribution systems. Provide operational support for gas meter installation, removal, reading, and replacement, as well as investigating gas leaks and carbon monoxide incidents.
  • Non-Regulated Duties: Diagnose, repair, service, and install various appliances and HVAC systems. Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment.

This position requires on-call availability 24/7 on a rotating schedule, with potential shift work based on operational needs.

Additionally, the role involves promoting and selling non-regulated service contracts.

Experience will be a key factor in determining placement within the job family (Field Technician III or Field Technician II).

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, service, and install appliances and HVAC systems, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Install, service, and routinely replace all sizes of gas metering devices, pressure regulators, relief valves, and filters.
  • Identify, locate, and mark all natural gas mains, service lines, and fuel lines within the transmission and distribution network.
  • Conduct odorant testing, system leak surveys, and annual mandated inspections, while providing thorough documentation.
  • Assist in the construction or replacement of natural gas mains and service lines.
  • Set, adjust, and monitor various pressures for natural gas delivery, including farm taps and pressure testing of facilities.
  • Provide operational support for gas meter management.
  • Investigate gas leaks and respond to emergency situations involving gas leaks and carbon monoxide.
  • Locate gas transmission and distribution systems accurately.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, HSED, or GED is required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary, meeting the company's driving requirements.

The Field Technician III position necessitates one year of relevant experience, while the Field Technician II role requires three years of applicable experience, which may include:

  • Knowledge of natural gas distribution systems and gas meter maintenance.
  • Experience in the installation, repair, and servicing of both gas and electric heating appliances for residential and commercial clients.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical principles.
  • Experience in customer relations, service, and sales.
  • Proficiency in operating electronic devices (e.g., computers, Toughpads).

Selected employees may need to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) based on assigned tasks. Additionally, some Field Technicians may be required to undergo further training and medical evaluations for safety and PPE compliance.
