Job Overview

SUMMARY-

Pratt Paper (KY), LLC is seeking a Junior Chemical Analyst to support operations at its facility. The company is in the process of implementing a state-of-the-art paper machine dedicated to producing linerboard and corrugating medium.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES-

The Junior Chemical Analyst collaborates with the Senior Chemist and the production team to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency. This role involves overseeing the management of chemical systems within the mill.

KEY DUTIES INCLUDE:
  • Designing and ordering appropriate chemical and starch delivery systems
  • Ensuring proper installation of chemical and starch delivery systems
  • Commissioning these systems
  • Engaging in negotiations with chemical suppliers to finalize programs and suppliers
Post-implementation, the Junior Chemical Analyst's responsibilities will shift to include:
  • Upholding safety standards in chemical handling areas
  • Managing chemical inventories
  • Overseeing chemical delivery systems
  • Assessing and optimizing chemical costs
  • Conducting evaluations of trials
  • Training operators on chemical processes and technical concepts
  • Monitoring and reporting on Air and Water Permitting compliance
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS-

A Bachelor of Science degree in Pulp and Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline is required.

EXPERIENCE-

Candidates should possess 3-5 years of experience in Paper Mill Chemistry or Chemical Technical Services, with a preference for those with direct Paper Mill experience.

LANGUAGE AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS-

Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, at a collegiate level is essential. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to solve complex mathematical equations, including algebra, geometry, and calculus, applicable to mill operations.

REASONING AND TECHNICAL ABILITIES-

Applicants should be adept at utilizing knowledge of papermaking and associated chemistry to address process, equipment, and quality challenges.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-

Regular walking, talking, and hearing are required. Frequent standing and manual dexterity are necessary, with occasional sitting. The ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds is essential. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT-

Initially, the role will involve significant time on the production floor in a high-temperature environment, which will decrease over time. The production area is characterized by high noise levels, necessitating the use of hearing protection.
