Position Overview

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I is responsible for adhering to established protocols in the collection of biological specimens. This role involves accurately identifying patients, performing specimen collection, and ensuring proper labeling and transportation of samples. The technician will collect blood specimens through both venous and capillary methods, ensuring that all procedures are conducted with precision and care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute specimen collection procedures while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
  • Process specimens efficiently in preparation for laboratory testing.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to patient care and laboratory activities.
  • Distribute laboratory reports in accordance with established protocols.
  • Participate in the onboarding and training of new staff members as needed.
  • Manage inventory levels of laboratory supplies and place orders as necessary.
  • Support various laboratory functions and assist in other departments as required.
  • Adapt to changing shift assignments as directed.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of one year in a general acute care setting is preferred.
  • Licensure: Must possess a current Certified Phlebotomy Technician License and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications required within specified timeframes.
  • Language Proficiency: Full command of the English language, both verbal and written.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and possessing the sensory acuity necessary for patient care functions.
