Job Overview

Greenman-Pedersen, Inc., a leading engineering firm recognized in the ENR Top 100, is seeking skilled highway and bridge construction inspectors for various KYTC projects. We have openings for positions ranging from entry-level to senior-level inspectors in the Louisville/Frankfort/Shepherdsville area.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a GPI/KYTC Project Team. Flexibility to work during the contractor's operational hours, including potential night shifts and weekends, is essential for project success. GPI provides a competitive salary package, commensurate with the candidate's experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily inspections and evaluations of contractor activities on heavy highway and bridge construction projects, covering aspects such as earthwork, subgrade, asphalt, concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, maintenance of traffic, safety devices, and utilities.
  • Accurately measure, compute, and document contract quantities for contractor payments.
  • Interpret and analyze project plans, specifications, and standards effectively.
  • Oversee material sampling and testing to ensure compliance with project standards.
  • Verify that contractor work and materials adhere to established standards and specifications.
  • Document daily project progress, including work performed, compliance with plans/specifications, workforce details, equipment usage, contract quantities, and any additional work.
  • Utilize software tools such as Word, Excel, SiteManager, and LIMS for project documentation and reporting.
  • Identify and communicate project-related issues to project managers and contractors.
  • Recognize, assess, and report unsafe conditions encountered on-site.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • An Associate's degree or higher in Construction Management, Technology, or Civil Engineering is preferred but not mandatory for all roles.
  • Experience in construction inspection with KYTC or other DOTs is advantageous.
  • Certifications such as ACI Field Testing Technician Level I, KYTC Aggregate Sampling Technician, Asphalt Paving Best Practices, Structural Inspection Level I, and KEPSC-RI are preferred or must be obtained.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with basic computer skills, is necessary.
  • OSHA 10 certification or the ability to obtain it is required.

Essential Requirements:

  • Possess a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report.
  • Have access to a personal vehicle for job site use.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend plans and instructions in English.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to create and edit documents in Microsoft Word and Excel, and communicate via Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
  • Capable of standing for extended periods, with the ability to traverse uneven construction sites.
  • Able to climb ladders and work at heights of 6 feet or more.
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment as required.
  • Able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
