About This Role: We are seeking a skilled Lead Nursing Professional to join our team at Houston Methodist.


Job Summary: As a Lead Nursing Professional, you will be responsible for creating a safe and supportive environment for patient care management and delivery. Your primary goal will be to provide exceptional nursing care to diverse patients, conduct assessments, assist with exams and treatment, and maintain accurate medical records.



  • You will assume leadership responsibilities, modeling compassionate communication with physicians and the interprofessional healthcare team, and contribute to high-level bedside, unit, service line, and institution leadership.
  • Your responsibilities will include leading unit and shared governance activities, assessing unit needs, serving as a clinical resource, and coordinating education with management.

Key Responsibilities: Foster staff engagement through active listening, requesting and acknowledging feedback, making equitable decisions, providing rationale, and supporting organizational goals.



  • Anticipate staff needs and proactively offer assistance, role model interprofessional communication, and assist with staff stress management as needed.
  • Improve departmental scores for turnover/retention on the unit-based scorecard.

Leadership Expectations: Model fair and consistent leadership skills for effective team dynamics and teambuilding strategies through problem-solving, coaching, and developing staff.



  • Coach staff to use efficient and effective communication to establish and maintain a team environment, and to include the patient and family as part of the team regarding their plan of care.
  • Provide input into staff performance reviews, as appropriate.

Quality/Safety Essential Functions: Models the standards of care related to the nursing process, as outlined in the Houston Methodist Professional Nursing Practice document, by actively participating in meeting and improving nurse-sensitive quality indicators and patient safety goals.



  • Coordinate nursing care throughout the shift considering patient acuity, staff skill level, and safety to ensure that our duty to our patients can be met.
  • Facilitate seamless patient flow to/from/through the department, leading the delivery of quality family-centered care throughout the continuum of care.

Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing, 24 months of clinical nursing experience with demonstration of progressive leadership skills, and sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.


Estimated Salary: $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
