Job Summary:

This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail. As a Substation Electrician, you will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of substation and distribution equipment, ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and maintain substation and distribution equipment, including electrical bus, switches, breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, capacitor banks, circuit switchers, AC and DC systems, conduit and cable raceway, ground grid systems, and control, metering, and relay panels.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as adjusting switches, checking electrical connections, and sampling and testing of oil, to ensure the optimal performance of substation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment, including breakers, regulators, and transformers, to minimize downtime and ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electricity.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure the smooth operation of the substation and distribution system, including system operations, maintenance, and construction teams.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of electrical equipment serviced, repaired, and tested, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Perform monthly inspections and gather data for reports and updating records, to ensure the optimal performance of substation equipment and the safe and reliable delivery of electricity.
  • Respond to after-hours work needs and assist with coordinating the emergency repair of the electric system, to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to our customers.

Requirements:

  • High School or GED equivalent (Required)
  • Completion of a four-year documented substation apprentice program -or - minimum six years' experience as a journeyman substation electrician (Required)
  • Class A CDL License Valid Florida commercial driver's license (CDL-Class A), or must obtain within 30 days (Required)

Working Environment:

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to inclement weather, including extreme heat, thunderstorms, and occasional cool temperatures. The position also requires occasional work in a substation shop environment.
