Role Summary:

SOVAH Health in Martinsville, VA, is in search of a PRN Radiation Therapist. This role encompasses the planning and execution of radiation therapy, which includes identifying target volumes, creating immobilization devices, and calculating radiation dosages. The therapist will ensure accurate delivery of radiation treatments while maintaining clear communication throughout the process.

  • Confirm patient identity prior to any procedures.
  • Plan radiation therapy treatments, including target localization, custom block creation, and dosage calculations.
  • Deliver prescribed radiation therapy accurately, ensuring proper documentation and communication.
  • Provide verbal and written instructions regarding treatment protocols and report any reactions to the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Ensure the safe operation of radiation therapy equipment.
  • Assist with the preparation and verification of radioactive materials as necessary.

Educational Requirements:

  • Completion of an ARRT-approved Radiation Therapy program.
  • Current certification from The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is mandatory.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to work independently.
  • Able to perform effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Proficient in planning and administering Radiation Therapy.
  • Familiarity with radiological equipment and computer systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform a full range of motion with upper and lower extremities.
  • Capable of moving and lifting patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Dexterity and hand-eye coordination are essential.
  • Must have corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.
  • Willingness to stand or walk for extended periods and work under stress.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases requiring adherence to safety protocols.

Certifications Required:

  • Current certification from The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Experience:

  • Preferred: One year of experience in Radiation Oncology.
  • Preferred: Active involvement in local, state, and professional organizations.
