We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Metal Fabricator and Welder to join our team at Sierra Lobo, Inc. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for fabricating and assembling structural metal products, such as framework or shells for machinery, test chambers, tanks, stacks, and metal parts for research hardware.
Key Responsibilities- Planning and Layout: Develops layout and plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal.
- Material Selection: Selects appropriate materials, tools, and processes required to complete task.
- Welding and Fabrication: Performs welding processes on mild steel, structural steel, and other metal parts using welding metals and metal alloys.
- Equipment Operation: Utilizes hand welding and flame cutting equipment such as arc, MIG, TIG welders, gas welders, and gas torches to weld together metal components (flat, horizontal, or vertical plates and pipes).
- Interpretation and Calculation: Interprets sketches, prints, operation sheets, preliminary drawings, and verbal instructions, and makes necessary shop computations.
- Machining and Assembly: Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinding equipment, and drill presses, lathes, mills, and assembles parts to prescribed tolerances and allowances.
- Experience: Must have a minimum of 4 years working experience at the Journeyman Level as a welder fabricator.
- Education: Completion of a 4-year State approved apprenticeship program with a Journeyman's certificate highly desired or have equivalent vocational school training with sufficient combined work experience and skills.
- Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge OSHA requirements relating to fabrication in a shop environment, ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision, ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of workflow, self-motivated and a 'Team Player' with good interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness and safety practices.
