Position Overview:


The role of the Oncology Infusion Registered Nurse involves collaborative efforts among healthcare professionals who prescribe, dispense, and administer a diverse range of solutions, medications, nutritional support, and blood products.

The infusion team, also known as the vascular access team (VAT), is dedicated to ensuring that patient and organizational requirements for the safe and effective delivery of quality infusion therapy are met.

Registered Nurses in this capacity will deliver care to patients within our specialized infusion center, ensuring high standards of practice and patient safety.

The Infusion Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and coordinating competent, evidence-based care, which encompasses assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

This position requires active participation in decision-making, education, mentoring, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient care plans, achieve desired outcomes, and improve operational efficiency.

The clinician is tasked with managing clinical outcomes, costs, and patient satisfaction within their daily responsibilities and the overall operations of the infusion center.

Care provided is aligned with the organization's core values, and the RN will coordinate nursing and interdisciplinary teams for daily patient care assignments.


Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Ensuring competency and conducting competency assessments in infusion therapy and vascular access practices as defined by the legal scope of practice.

Obtaining informed consent, performing nursing assessments, establishing nursing diagnoses, identifying outcomes, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while exercising clinical judgment to prioritize needs and document in patient health records.

Adhering to physician orders and the five rights of medication administration.
Demonstrating proficiency in venous access as required by the vascular access team.
Facilitating coordination among colleagues, clinicians, administration, and patient care teams.

Exhibiting organizational and clerical skills, including managing phone communications, scheduling appointments, and understanding the preauthorization process for medication administration.

Reviewing patient charts and ensuring accurate billing for services rendered.
Supervising and monitoring care provided by LPNs and CNAs.
Maintaining chemotherapy certification.
Applying critical thinking in wound care and management.
Monitoring the safety and effectiveness of the care environment and equipment.
Upholding a high level of patient confidentiality.
Recognizing and valuing cultural diversity.
Performing housekeeping tasks as necessary.
Restocking supplies and organizing departmental needs.
Completing other assigned duties as required.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN)

Licenses and Certifications:
Current state license to practice as a Registered Nurse
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Skills:
Ability to read, write, and comprehend written instructions, correspondence, and reports.
Effective communication skills for presentations and interactions with colleagues and patients.
Problem-solving abilities to follow detailed instructions and address challenges.
Mathematical skills for basic calculations related to patient care.

Additional responsibilities may include assisting other departments as needed and participating in community health initiatives and disaster preparedness planning.
