Job Description

CSL Plasma is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Professional to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our donors.

Responsibilities
  1. Donor Evaluation: Conduct thorough evaluations of donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures, ensuring that all necessary information is obtained and documented.
  2. Medical Supervision: Supervise the administration of approved immunizations, other than red blood cell immunizations, and provide limited emergency medical care to donors and staff.
  3. Communication: Promote positive customer relations with all donors, conducting confidential and effective interviews to obtain necessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma.
  4. Medical History Reviews: Perform medical history reviews and health assessments on donors, assessing results of donor screening and laboratory tests to determine initial and continuing donor suitability.
  5. Test Results: Notify and counsel donors regarding reactive test results, referring them to community facilities for follow-up and counseling as needed.
  6. Informed Consent: Explain informed consent to applicant donors, including explanation of procedures, hazards, and potential adverse events.
  7. Medical Emergencies: Handle medical emergencies at the center, providing routine care as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and elevating situations to the Center Physician or local medical service providers as required.
  8. Donor Data Management: Ensure the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system, as outlined in SOPs.
  9. Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  10. Additional Responsibilities: May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business and perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Education: Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school, or naturopathic medical training program.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience in a healthcare environment, with experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred.
  • Skills: Ability to make and analyze a physical assessment of heart, lung sounds, signs of drug use, etc., and ability to instruct donors, staff, and community regarding the benefit of plasma donation programs.
Working Conditions

This role requires:

  • Physical Demands: Ability to make decisions that have a moderate impact on the immediate work unit, ability to understand, remember, and apply oral and/or written instructions, and ability to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
  • Environmental Factors: Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and to blood-borne pathogens, and required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas.
