Job Summary

As a Respiratory Therapist at the Detroit Medical Center, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality cardiopulmonary care to patients throughout the continuum of care. Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, you will act as a professional member of the healthcare team by providing therapeutic and rehabilitative procedures and diagnostic tests for patients with, or at risk of, abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system.

You will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to develop optimal cardiopulmonary care plans for patients. Your responsibilities will include performing patient assessments, evaluating the appropriateness and effectiveness of therapy, and determining which respiratory care activities can be delegated to other care team members.

In addition, you will instruct employees and students in the principles and practices of designated respiratory care procedures/tasks and evaluate their competence. May function as an in-charge therapist and preceptor, as requested.

Qualifications

Graduation from an AMA/CoARC approved Respiratory Care program. Associates degree in Science, Allied Health or equivalent, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Registration (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). BCLS certification required. ACLS certification preferred. Licensure to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan.
