Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Curator to join our team at the DePaul Art Museum. The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding the museum's artistic vision, developing and implementing exhibitions and programs, and enhancing the university's teaching collection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine and develop all museum exhibitions, public programs, and artistic content within the museum's mission and scope.
  • Coordinate exhibit activities with staff, guest curators, university faculty, and departments.
  • Purchase supplies, designate honoraria, and manage budgets related to exhibitions.
  • Arrange documentation of exhibitions.
  • Manage all exhibition contracts, including touring exhibitions and guest curators.
  • Maintain exhibition files, archives, and collection management software.
  • Supervise exhibitions and collections staff and student workers.
  • Collaborate with and manage the Art Museum Collection & Exhibition Manager to develop standards for, and oversee care and documentation of the collection and exhibitions.
  • Represent the museum and the university in external professional and academic communities.
  • Communicate with deans and faculty in schools and departments regarding museum programs and potential curricular collaborations.
  • Write grant applications to foundations and endowments, and encourage donors of objects and funds in collaboration with the Director and University Advancement.
Requirements
  • MA or MFA in art history, museum studies, arts administration, studio arts, or related field.
  • 10+ years experience in museum or equivalent exhibition curation and/or management.
  • Knowledge of art history, art conservation principles, and basic financial management.
  • Demonstrated history of scholarship, exhibition organization, and fundraising.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including word processing and data management programs.
  • Experience in managing budgets and personnel.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Requirements
  • PhD.
Working Conditions

The Curator will work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and priorities. The position requires strong organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
