Job Overview

Position Summary: The Heavy Equipment Operator is an entry-level role focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position requires flexibility to work at various locations and may involve travel based on customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

- Adhere to safety protocols while engaging in new construction, maintenance, or repair tasks involving both energized and de-energized transmission work.
- Assist in stringing overhead wires.
- Participate in setting poles and anchors.
- Support the installation of transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
- Aid in replacing fuses in transformers and clearing faulted circuits and systems.
- Regularly work with energized high voltage systems, necessitating skill and caution to ensure safety.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in optimal condition.
- Perform other related tasks as required to fulfill job responsibilities.

Position Requirements:
  • Ability to perform demanding physical labor.
  • Familiarity with the proper use of company communication devices.
  • Understanding of heavy equipment operations.
  • Knowledge of basic rigging, hand lines, and knot tying.
  • Proficient in the use and upkeep of hand tools.
  • Capable of following instructions and directions.
  • Willingness to learn about materials used in line work.
  • Basic understanding of primary and secondary voltage identification.
  • Familiarity with induced voltage concepts.
  • Able to assist in the installation and connection of single-phase transformers.
  • Competent in performing basic rescue operations from heights.
  • Understanding of equipment setup and grounding principles.
  • Ability to work in elevated positions and confined spaces.
  • Knowledge of minimum approach distances.
  • Skilled in checking voltage on transformers.
  • Understanding of flagging and tagging procedures.
  • Able to install and remove service connections.
  • Proficient in inspecting rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Knowledge of when to utilize personal protective equipment.
  • Able to utilize hand lines effectively.
  • Understanding of Kellum grips usage.
  • Ability to identify various materials used in line work.
  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice, if necessary.
  • Able to work extended hours in diverse locations, when required.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License.
  • Able to lift weights exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors, often in adverse weather conditions.
  • Open to working overtime when needed.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands outlined here represent the requirements that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. While executing job duties, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively and frequently required to stand, walk, use hands for handling and feeling, and reach with arms.

Work Environment:
While performing job duties, the employee is often exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. Occasional exposure to extreme conditions at construction sites is expected. The noise level in the work environment can be loud, and this position is conducted outdoors under varying weather conditions.
