Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. This role requires adherence to current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, as well as the Director of Nursing or Unit Manager's requirements to ensure the highest level of quality care is maintained at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
  • Ensure that all nursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility.
  • Meet with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan shifts' services, programs, and activities.
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift as required.
  • Cooperate with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the resident's total regimen of care is maintained.
  • Ensure that all nursing service personnel are in compliance with their respective job descriptions.
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections made by authorized government agencies as requested.
  • Periodically review the resident's written discharge plan and participate in the updating of the resident's written discharge plan as required.
  • Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, taking blood, giving massages and range of motion exercises, care for the dead/dying, etc., as required.
  • Perform lab tests, blood pressures, and other routine monitored as required per the resident care plan.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
  • Encourage attending physicians to review treatment plans, record and sign their orders, progress notes, etc., in accordance with established policies.
  • Receive telephone orders from physicians and transcribe on the Physicians' Order Form.
  • Chart nursing notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident's response to the care.
Job Requirements
  • Must have a valid professional license (RN) that is in good standing with the State.
  • Must have a valid CPR certification.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Must be able to perform the essential position functions of the job with, or without reasonable accommodation.
