OVERVIEW
The RN specializing in Preoperative and Post-Anesthesia Care will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care during the pre-surgical and post-surgical phases of the patient's journey.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To excel in this role, the individual must competently perform the following essential functions:
1. Evaluate, educate, and prepare patients prior to surgical interventions;
2. Verify that all necessary consents for surgery are duly signed and accurate;
3. Record and monitor vital signs to confirm patient readiness for surgical procedures;
4. Assess and document patients' conditions following surgery;
5. Observe vital signs and other indicators of recovery to ensure patients meet discharge criteria;
6. Maintain comprehensive documentation in patient records;
7. Address patient inquiries to enhance comfort and understanding;
8. Monitor patients for any changes in condition and communicate findings to the physician;
9. Execute intervention protocols during post-operative emergencies;
10. Collect relevant medical histories and provide clear instructions for pre-operative and post-operative care;
11. Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
The qualifications listed below are essential for performing the key functions:
• Current, unrestricted RN license in New York State;
• A minimum of two years of experience in PACU or critical care settings is required;
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with healthcare providers, patients, and colleagues;
• Ability to manage the pace of brief patient interactions while ensuring quality care in post-operative settings;
• Specialized knowledge and skills in perioperative nursing practices;
• Capable of making informed decisions when necessary.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work schedules are Monday through Friday; no weekend, holiday, or on-call duties are required.
Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle for necessary travel.
40 hours per week.
