Job Goals:
Support students with a variety of needs by providing a combination of individualized academic, behavioral, functional life skills, and social-emotional instruction; medical/health care, feeding and hygiene assistance; and support for learning, mobility, emotional regulation, health care, and communication.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Assist students by teaching and reinforcing academic subjects, social-emotional-behavioral learning, independence, and community access/job skills.
2.
Support the teacher by helping students engage fully in class activities, which includes reinforcing skills and lesson plans, adapting/modifying assignments, monitoring and promoting acceptable behavior, and administering assessments.
3.Implement and support specialized instruction, accommodations, modifications, and routines as specified by professional staff and/or each child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or related Behavior Intervention Plan.
4.Provide direct care or assist students with needs related to diapering/toileting, feeding, dressing, mobility, and overall access to the educational environment.
5. Prepare the classroom or learning environment with necessary supplies and materials, and support file maintenance and record keeping.6.
Communicate directly with students, families, and professional staff in a respectful and confidential manner, clearly conveying observations, information, and data regarding students to professional staff in an objective and timely manner.
7.Monitor and supervise students during transitions to and from classrooms and buses, on field trips, in the playground, health room, and during other activities.
8.Participate in in-services, building meetings, training, and school functions as required by the position and/or location (Mandt, CPR, small vehicle, medical delegation, etc.).
9. Provide behavior prevention and intervention support, which may include physical intervention.- Prepare and administer medication under the supervision of the RN after delegation.
- Administer first aid and/or CPR to ill or injured students following established guidelines.
- Provide care to students as outlined in an Individualized Health Care Plan.
- Collect and document student data as needed (IEP goal progress, behavioral events, observational data, medical vital signs, etc.) after training.
- Demonstrate flexibility when specific job tasks are adjusted to meet building or district-level needs.
- Perform other assigned duties.

- Ability to adhere to Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures.
Tools and Equipment:
Wheelchairs, bus lifts, office equipment, audio-visual equipment, occupational/physical therapy equipment, medical equipment. Note that not all tools and equipment may be listed.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands for handling, talking, or hearing. The employee frequently stands, walks, sits, and reaches with hands and arms. Occasionally, the employee may climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
This position may require the ability to provide physical intervention to students in danger of harming themselves or others.
Salary:
Special Education Paraeducators are compensated according to the Classified Salary Schedule.
- FF8 allows new hires to account for up to 8 years of previous experience in similar educational settings.
- New hires typically start at the lower end of the salary range.
