The Lead Mechanical Engineer - HVAC/AirCon/Refrigeration is tasked with conducting comprehensive engineering analyses, design, validation, and troubleshooting of intricate components for industrial airport and military apparatus. This role encompasses providing integration and execution support for machinery, equipment, and component design, alongside offering technical mentorship in high-level analysis and design of both new and modified components and subsystems, adhering to engineering and military standards as well as project specifications.

YOUR IMPACT:

  • Oversee the definition, initiation, and completion of projects or segments of projects of moderate complexity within designated timelines.
  • Potentially manage overall project schedules and budgets.
  • Handle multiple priorities and/or programs as necessary.
  • Execute complex engineering calculations, investigations, and assigned tasks in accordance with Oshkosh and general industry engineering standards and processes.
  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of plans, designs, computation methods, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with other engineering or business support disciplines internally and with external suppliers, including fabricators and installers.
  • Engage with external customers and/or industry organizations as needed.
  • Mentor entry-level engineers involved in common projects.
  • Research, develop, and update standard engineering methodologies and procedures, including best practices.
  • Participate in the budgeting process, recommending capital improvements and preparing necessary justification data, including estimating program and equipment build costs.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and external resources regarding technical issues.
  • Clearly communicate project objectives to team members.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering criteria and drawing standards, while conducting technical issues within the framework of company policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability, and maintain project documentation for analysis, research, and historical records.
  • Conduct engineering analyses to support the selection of parts, components, and materials that meet specified requirements, documenting findings with clear impacts or options for resolution.
  • Provide advanced technical assistance for production support, test technicians, and field service teams.
  • Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering through verbal or written communication.
  • Mentor team members to ensure appropriate engineering analyses are performed and documented.
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, coupled with five (5) or more years of relevant experience. This experience requirement may be adjusted for the right candidate.
  • A strong passion for identifying fact-based engineering solutions and an aptitude for recognizing emerging technical variations.

STANDOUT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive mechanical knowledge of automotive, heavy-vehicle equipment, industrial refrigeration systems, or military programs and related systems.
  • Proficiency with a high-level CAD system, preferably Siemens NX.
  • Expertise in FMEA, FEA, and CFD is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with control systems integration (PLC, HMIs, remote I/O, Modbus, BACnet, etc.) is a significant plus.
  • Expertise in piping design, particularly with pre-bend piping.
  • Understanding of heat transfer and airflow design criteria.
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication, weldments, and frame design layout development is a notable advantage.
