Position Details
The starting pay for this non-exempt role is $22.77 per hour. Candidates must be available to work various shifts within our 24/7 operation. New officers will undergo training across multiple shifts, with placement likely on evening or overnight shifts based on seniority.
The Airport Police Officer, reporting to the Shift Lieutenant, is tasked with law enforcement duties, security, and safety operations at Tulsa International Airport. This role may also involve occasional duties at Tulsa Riverside Airport and VIP security responsibilities. Officers collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to enforce criminal laws, traffic regulations, and federal guidelines. Responsibilities include investigating incidents, preparing documentation, and providing testimony in court.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to all law enforcement incidents on airport premises.
- Manage traffic in busy and emergency situations.
- Conduct arrests and issue citations as necessary.
- Investigate crimes and ensure evidence is properly collected and preserved.
- Prepare detailed reports using basic to moderate computer skills.
- Engage in public relations activities.
- Perform safety and security inspections throughout the airport.
- Respond to emergencies and assist with airfield alerts and escorts.
- Operate police vehicles safely in a crowded airport setting.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices.
- Perform additional tasks as required to maintain compliance with relevant regulations.
- Consistently report to work on time and fulfill other assigned duties.
Qualifications
Education & Experience: A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. Candidates must possess a CLEET Basic Peace Officer Certification and be at least 21 years old. Applicants with felony convictions, crimes of moral turpitude, or domestic violence offenses are ineligible.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidates should have knowledge of office procedures and equipment, the ability to interpret laws and regulations, proficiency with necessary software, and strong communication skills. The ability to remain composed in emergencies and make quick decisions is essential.
Physical Requirements: The role requires physical capabilities including hand and arm steadiness, occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, and the ability to perform various physical activities such as walking, standing, and climbing. Sufficient vision, speech, and hearing are necessary to execute essential job functions.
Licenses and Certifications: Candidates must hold a valid CLEET Basic Peace Officer Certification and an Oklahoma Class D Operator's License. Eligibility for a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge is also required.
Work Environment: The position primarily involves indoor work, with occasional outdoor duties in various weather conditions. Officers may be exposed to hazardous materials and must be prepared to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Firearms Policy: Candidates must be legally permitted to possess firearms and ammunition. Under federal law, individuals who are unlawful users of controlled substances are prohibited from firearm possession. This includes marijuana, which is classified as a controlled substance under federal law.
Note: This position is classified as 'safety sensitive' according to federal regulations, meaning employees will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random tests.
