Research Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our Ceramic Materials team at Saint-Gobain. As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for delivering independent results on assigned projects while successfully integrating in a matrix organization.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in conventional ceramics processing, including formulation, mixing, forming, firing process, and test method development. Experience in statistical methods, data analysis, and coding/modeling is also required.

The selected candidate will lead R&D projects through effective collaboration with R&D colleagues, commercial team members, external customers, and external suppliers. Key responsibilities will include creating and executing project plans, designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and presenting findings in written and oral formats.

Main Job Duties:

• Contribute to multiple projects from inception through scale-up, with minimum supervision.
• Participate in multiple projects simultaneously, on time, well documented, and within budget.
• Provide oral and written communication of goals, timings, and results.
• Demonstrate a collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility, seeking others to enhance and streamline development and decision-making.
• Use research and/or project experiences to improve on/or develop products and processes.
• Apply a stage-gate approach to project decisions.
• Utilize technical background and experience to develop and/or improve products, processes, and performance and/or reduce costs within a major product area.
• Partner externally/internally to advance projects and develop competencies.
• Summarize projects' approach and results in concise and accurate technical memos, reports, and presentations.

Requirements:

• BS degree with a minimum of 3+ years of industry or research experience, or entry level master's or PhD in Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials, or similar Engineering/Science disciplines.
• Industrial, laboratory, or academic research; or manufacturing experience.

Competencies:

• Ability to proactively interact with internal customers to clearly define their needs, reach a consensus on project's strategy, goals, and deliverables.
• Ability to design, set up, and conduct relevant lab experiments with minimum guidance.
• Ability to establish projects' scientific strategy and goals with minimum guidance.
• Proficiency with FEA and/or CFD software or other simulation packages.
• Proficiency with Matlab or other numerical computing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to write concise and accurate technical documents and give strong technical presentations to a wide variety of audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to efficiently interface with various departments and to achieve goals by leveraging multiple teams.
• Excellent oral and written communication of goals, timings, and results.
