POSITION SUMMARY:
The Youth Employment Navigator plays a pivotal role in connecting young individuals with valuable job opportunities while ensuring their long-term success in the workforce. This position collaborates closely with both in-school and out-of-school programs to foster relationships with local businesses and employers, facilitating the recruitment of job sites and enhancing retention strategies for youth employment.
The primary objective of the Navigator is to identify and secure advanced job positions and new career pathways for youth, particularly those aged 16 and older. It is essential to establish a supportive mentorship or supervisory framework to guide these young individuals toward achieving their professional aspirations.
Similar to the Learn to Earn initiative, this role involves actively engaging potential participants, evaluating their skills and requirements, and assisting them in formulating academic and career objectives. The Navigator will also provide essential job readiness training, maintain accurate records, and identify reputable businesses willing to offer internships and employment opportunities.
In partnership with the Center for Youth Services, the Navigator serves as a crucial link to community organizations, local enterprises, and educational institutions. Regular communication with participants and their support networks is maintained, along with the development and facilitation of job readiness workshops. The Navigator also refers youth to suitable agencies for additional support, cultivates business partnerships to create paid internship and job opportunities, and offers direct assistance to help youth achieve their educational and employment goals. The Navigator is dedicated to empowering young individuals by providing a comprehensive suite of services and resources necessary for them to succeed and build a brighter future.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implementing all facets of direct service delivery, including:
- Promoting the program
- Recruiting and qualifying participants
- Utilizing evidence-based assessment methods for individuals entering the program
- Delivering comprehensive workforce readiness training covering both technical and interpersonal skills
- Building strong partnerships with employers to align training and resources with their needs
- Educating employers on the advantages of hiring individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Conducting follow-up support for both participants and employers post-placement
- Facilitating job matching services that consider individual interests and potential
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of job readiness training programs
- Meeting regularly with participants to:
- Assess and review their needs
- Support their employment acquisition efforts
- Evaluate and encourage academic and career goals
- Provide referrals and linkages to additional services
- Maintaining ongoing communication with participants' support systems
- Providing transportation for participants to program-related events as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and life skills is required.
