POSITION SUMMARY


The Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in gathering patient information, documenting medical histories, and preparing patients for examinations under the supervision of a physician.

This position involves rooming patients, administering injections as directed, managing durable medical equipment, educating patients, and assisting in various procedures permitted under CMA licensure.

Support the physician, physician assistant, and LPNs to ensure a positive patient experience and outcome.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Guide patients to examination rooms; collect patient histories and vital signs.
  • Retrieve x-rays and MRIs as necessary; upload images provided by patients.
  • Assist physicians and x-ray technicians with procedures as required; aid in obtaining patient consent for procedures.
  • Support patients with dressing, transport, and transfers.
  • Assist with the application and removal of casts and splints.
  • Remove sutures and staples, and apply Steri-Strips and appropriate dressings as directed by the physician.
  • Schedule and reschedule patient appointments as needed.
  • Collect specimens as instructed by a physician, ensuring proper documentation and delivery to the appropriate lab.
  • Prepare instruments for sterilization as necessary.
  • Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) and prepare charts for upcoming appointments.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, physicians, and other staff members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Maintain regular attendance and demonstrate awareness of patient confidentiality and rights.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • CMA certification or degree (current licensure required).
  • A minimum of six months of relevant clinical experience and/or training.
  • Current CPR Certification and Mandatory Reporter Certification.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Exceptional communication skills; ability to effectively communicate in English.
  • Ability to hear and interact with patients and team members in person and over the phone.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting medical documents and procedures.
  • Accurate documentation of patient care in EMR.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The physical demands required for this position include:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, with the capacity to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to assist patients with mobility and transfers.
  • Exposure to potential chemical hazards and communicable diseases.
  • Work in a clinical environment with moderate noise levels.
