RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS

  • Responsible for serving meals to patients, guests, and staff at Vassar Brothers Hospital in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assigned to the cafeteria steam table to ensure prompt and effective meal service for employees and visitors.
  • Delivers and collects meal trays for patients at their bedside, including special function orders and patient nourishments, to support optimal patient care.
  • Prepares dirty patient trays for washing by scraping them adequately.
  • Cleans dishes, pots, and utensils to maintain proper sanitation for meal preparation and service.
  • Handles and distributes all clean wares following the washing and sanitizing process.
  • Prepares salads and other cold items for service to patients, guests, and employees, as well as for special events.
  • Prepares desserts, nourishments, and tube feedings for patient service, along with desserts for cafeteria service.
  • Keeps kitchen areas free from debris and ensures sanitary conditions throughout the facility.
  • Promotes a safe and efficient working environment by adhering to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Exhibits respect and dignity towards all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital personnel, in line with the philosophy of Vassar Brothers Hospital.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL FACTORS

Physical:
This position requires light physical effort on a regular basis, including frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, or reaching, and occasional lifting of light items (up to 20 lbs.). There may be periodic eye or ear strain (less than 50% of the time).

Mental:

The role may involve irregular hours due to compensated overtime requirements, including weekend rotations, and occasional stress from workload pressures.


ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS


Minor physical inconveniences or discomforts may be present in the work environment (such as moderate noise or disagreeable odors) and occasional exposure to minor injuries or other occupational hazards requiring precautions.
